ABOUT THE ENERGY ENFORCERS

WE ARE THE ENERGY ENFORCERS

The Energy Enforcers consist of 5 students from Carter G. Woodson Academy. We are competing in the Lexus Eco Challenge in Lexington, Kentucky. The Lexus Eco Challenge is where middle and high schoolers try to improve their communities by participating in three separate environmentally themed competitions. This helps students and teachers help the planet turn “greener”. We are competing in the Air and Climate category. Having this website helps us implement our action plan.

OUR ACTION PLAN

Our specific topic is energy.  We will reach out to the community and educate them about energy conservation, Keystone Pipeline, and environmental issues.

We chose this topic because energy has been wasted and burned (United States uses more energy per person than any other country); which has caused global warming. If people use alternative and renewable energy sources global warming will decrease, it will help save the world, and we can save more money. We want to help the world and stop the global warming crisis, and for people to use clean energy sources (wind, solar, geothermal, hydropower….). Our team consists of 5 people. They are Ni’Kerrion McDonald, Anthony Wright, Quinton Turner, Haiden Hunt, and Stan Shelby. Ni’Kerrion and Stan will be contacting the media and community. That means that we will contact all the schools, and email the director of the Jr. BMW (Black Men Working) program which is Mrs. Cozart and the Carter G. Woodson Academy Administration.

We will email them about the Lexus Eco Challenge and ask specific questions about setting specific dates to inform the public about conserving energy. We will also contact WLEX 18 news, CNN News, Steve Harvey, and President Barack Obama to inform them on our cause.  Quinton and Haiden will take pictures of us at Julius Marks, Cassidy, Booker T. Washington Primary Academy, Wellington Elementary, and Jr. BMW (Junior Black Male Working Program), and at any other community outreach events. All of us will be presenting at the schools and programs. Stan and Quinton will cover some of the materials. All of us will be doing most of the research. Ni'Kerrion and Stan will be contacting the public so that we can make arrangements to present. Anthony, Ni’Kerrion, and Stan is over the PowerPoints and Haiden is over photography and Ni’Kerrion is over website and spreading the word. With the help of our squad and when we inform the public, we can make a difference in the community. We will also stay abreast on the Keystone XL Pipeline Project and how adults can earn money through energy rebate programs.

School Presentations:  We will be going to Booker T. Washington Primary Academy, Cassidy Elementary, and Julius Marks elementary to present to the 4th and 5th graders about how to save energy. Due to snow days Cassidy, and Julius Marks Elementary schools, will be rescheduled to next week (March 5th/6th, 2015).  We were also asked to do a whole day’s worth of presentations to all the students at Wellington Elementary School.

Adult Presentations:  Instead of just presenting to kids, in the final round, we are also targeting adults at First Bracktown Baptist Church, Kentucky Legislators, Steve Harvey, President Obama, our school staff, and to the school parents .

Community Presentations:  We will be presenting information about energy at Jr. BMW, which stands for Junior Black Men Working (Grades  3-5, 45 students) on February 28th, 2015. It’s a Saturday program where the students do extra work and get help. We will set up a booth during the Science Fair on February 7, 2015, STEM Fair on March 14, and during the State STLP on March 28.
